Planting Seeds at Commons for Kids
Members of Nationwide Energy Partners’ Energize Columbus organization volunteered with Commons for Kids at the Columbus Commons on Friday, June 17.
Commons for Kids provides free outdoor activities for local youth of all ages every Friday morning during the summer. The program provides a space for activities such as Yoga for Kids classes, puppet shows, inflatable bounce houses, giant chess boards and much more.
Eight NEP volunteers helped kids develop their green thumbs at the Lowe’s planting station where they picked their plants, filled planters with soil and learned the essentials of how to help their plants grow. Volunteers then wrapped the planters up for the kids to take home and tend to. The kids had the opportunity to plant flower, vegetable and fruit seeds at the planting station.
Started in 2013, Energize Columbus provides NEP employees with opportunities to give back to the Columbus community through volunteer programs, its partner schools, fundraising and other charitable contributions. The focus of Energize Columbus’ 2016 philanthropic efforts is green initiatives.
