NEP offers cost-saving utility solutions not only for residential property developers, but for commercial developers as well. Commercial developers pay too much for their electric service.
Here are the top 5 reasons many commercial property owners pay more than they should for electric service:
- Late Payment
- Most utilities only allow 10-15 days for payments to be processed before applying a 5% late payment penalty. Due to the high volume of invoices processed by many accounts payable departments, this deadline is often missed.
- Billing Errors
- Often utility invoices are sent directly to accounts payable for processing. Most A/P departments lack the expertise to identify billing errors, resulting in overpayment.
- Meter Configuration
- Many facilities are built or expanded and have multiple utility service points. Consolidating multiple services into a single service can generate a 5-15% savings.
- Incorrect Tariff
- It is the customer’s obligation to ensure that they are on the most advantageous tariff. Often, changes in operations or expansion of facilities modify energy consumption and may qualify the owner for a tariff with a lower cost. Most companies lack the expertise to evaluate tariffs.
- Competitive Supply
- Most companies are not prepared to solicit offers from alternative suppliers. Most companies do not have energy load profiling capabilities and do not know the regulatory requirements to participate in competitive markets. For example, in AEP’s service territory, any facility with a demand in excess of 200KW is required to have an interval meter installed in order to obtain service from an alternative supplier. The vast majority of commercial properties are not equipped with interval meters.
Electric rates continue to make an uphill climb. For example, American Electric Power's generation rates are going up 6.6% in 2006 and an additional 2.2% in 2007 and another 2.2% in 2008. Do you know if you are effectively managing your energy costs today?
Historical Bill Audit
NEP will conduct a historical audit of your past electric bills on your behalf. Providing NEP with your most recent electric bill will enable us to access a 36 month billing history and review the bills for errors and proper tariff classification. NEP will coordinate obtaining refunds for any billing inaccuracies. NEP will retain 50% of any refunds obtained. In the event NEP identifies a more advantageous rate classification it will retain 30% of the first year’s savings. If we do not identify any refunds or tariff issues, we will not charge you for the audit.
